Cutting Boards
My take on the standard edge grain cutting board, size varies based on materials used. Contrasting species of wood are used including maple, jatoba, walnut and cherry. I make the typical edge grain multiple wood species cutting board. I then cut the board in two, lightly sand the cut curved edges and glue and clamp a 1/16" strip in between the two halves. After that dries, I repeat the process a second time. FDA approved food-safe glue is used. After rounding the edges and thorough sanding the board is finished with several applications of mineral oil. Drop me a line on my contact page or call (919) 627-7330 if you are interested.
These boards are light duty boards suitable for cutting breads and cheese or charcuterie use. They are typically 5/8 to 3/4" thick.
These are heavy duty boards suitable for general food prep, cutting and chopping, and are 1" or greater in thickness.
I started making these as a way to use scraps and cut offs generated making other items. No two coasters are alike. While I am happy that I am not throwing out all this material, I probably have as much effort in making a set of these as I do in a cutting board or picture frame! Coasters are 4X4" and 1/2 to 3/8" thick. They are finished with three coats of polyurethane and come with a red oak storage rack.
